As it relates to the hospitality industry, I define it as having a Proactive Hospitality Mind, where service providers place themselves in the customer’s shoes to anticipate the needs and wants for their experience, even before the customer asks.

Itsuo “Rick” Masuda, currently living in Honolulu, Hawaii, began working in the Tourism Industry in early 1970’s. Starting as a front desk clerk at the Kobayashi Hotel in Honolulu, Rick has worked his way through the many facets of the Hotel and Travel Industry, Kahala Hilton (Mandarin), Ilikai Hotel, Holiday Inn Waikiki, Sea Life Park, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel, Sheraton Hawaii and becoming the district sales manager (Japan/Far East Asia) for Aloha Airlines before joining the Hyatt Family. Associate Director of Sales Hyatt Regency Singapore, Pre-opening Director of Sales Hyatt Regency Saujana Malaysia, Resident Manager Grand Hyatt Seoul, Resident Manager Hyatt Regency Saipan, Director of Sales Asia/Pacific Hyatt Resorts Hawaii and Director of Sales Asia/Japan Hyatt Hotels and Resorts Tokyo. He is an instructor at Japan Hotel School, YMCA Hotel School Yokohama and Sanno Business College. Among the locations of his international overseas lectures are Singapore, Thailand, Palau, Nepal, Cambodia, Munich, Austria, Brazil, Argentina, Hawaii, Guam and throughout Japan.

  • Collaborate with Hawaii Tourism Authority and Hawaii’s travel and retail industry companies for training their management and staff on servicing upscale and affluent Japanese and Asian customers.

 

       

  • Partner with Jean Suzuki’s JAS Business Services LLC to promote business practices and human resources consultation and service training for Japan-based food and beverage companies planning to enter Hawaii market with branch locations for restaurants.

  • Promote in Hawaii, kamaboko (fishcake) from Odawara. Kamaboko is a food product whose popularity is growing, second to sashimi, as a healthy and tasty food.

    

  • Collaborate with outbound travel companies in Hawaii to build unique experiences in resort destinations that have been virtually untapped in Japan:

    • Kanagawa Prefecture: Yokohama, Kamakura, Odawara, Hakone, Manazuru, Yugawara

    • Shizuoka Prefecture: Atami, Izu

    • Yamanashi Prefecture: Kawaguchi Lake Hot Springs, Kofu​​

       ハワイの日本へのアウトバウンド(日本へのインバウンド)ツアーオペレーターと組み、特に神奈川県の横浜、鎌倉、江の             島、小田原、箱根、真鶴、静岡県の熱海、伊豆、山梨県の甲府、川口湖畔の温泉リゾート(特に富士山の景色が有名)などま           だハワイのアウトバウンドマーケットが再認識していない地域をプロモートしてツアーを売り込む。

  • Collaborate with Ohta Publications, a Japan-based publishing company that has surpassed a legacy of 50 years in business, as a contributing presenter and reporter on resort development in Japan's non-major cities and Hawaii's trending restaurants and resorts in their Hoteres Magazine.
